The first thing you need to know about Spiceworks is that it is meant for IT professionals. If you fall in this category, then you need to know that Spiceworks bundles together several useful elements: network inventory, monitoring, help desk, online community, and free support.

You can use Spiceworks anywhere. You can use Spiceworks on a Windows workstation or Windows server. You can use Spiceworks on an Apple iPad or on an Android tablet. You can use Spiceworks on an Apple iPhone or on an Android smartphone. You can use the Spiceworks Agent on your remote machines. And you can use Spiceworks Remote Collectors to manage multiple office sites.

To get Spiceworks up and running on a Windows PC, you will have to go through a standard installation process: download an installer, run it, follow the setup wizard’s instructions. When the installation process completes and you run Spiceworks, it will open in your browser. You will then be invited to create a Spiceworks account. After you log into your account you will be presented with a Welcome prompt that asks “what would you like to do first?”

Three options are presented by the aforementioned Welcome prompt:
Manage Mobile Devices – view device type, OS, carrier, and more; see what apps are installed on the mobile device; configure alerts for weak encryption, disabled passcodes, and more; locate, manage policies, remotely wipe.
Discover & Monitor My Devices – view all the devices in your inventory; view OS, RAM, installed apps, and other device details; troubleshoot problem devices; monitor devices, run reports, setup alerts.
Get My Help Desk Running – have users submit tickets through email or a custom portal; assign and track tickets; configure alerts for tickets; import tickets from an existing help desk.

The developer says that Spiceworks gives you all the tools you need to simplify your IT day. I wholeheartedly agree with that statement!

Pros

You can use Spiceworks anywhere; it is available for Windows, iPhone, iPad, Android, and more. You can very easily create a Spiceworks account. There’s a Welcome prompt that invites you to manage mobile devices, discover and monitor your devices, get your help desk running. Spiceworks helps you manage your network, run an IT help desk, research and buy products, and get IT answers from experts. Free tech support is offered. Spiceworks is free.

Cons

None that I could think of.
